The Ultimate Guide to Selecting a Classroom Stylus Pen

Today’s teachers increasingly rely on technology to enhance their lessons. A set of classroom stylus pens is an excellent addition for any teacher looking to have more controlled drawing and writing. Most importantly, when looking for these classroom supplies, there are numerous choices and varied price ranges. Buying a class set can get expensive. Deciding between active and passive stylus might seem confusing. Hopefully, this will help you determine the best to work in your class and budget.

Passive Stylus Pen At A Glance

You can tap or write directly on a screen with a passive stylus or capacitive stylus. The Capacitive stylus doesn’t have touch sensitivity or electronic components. There’s no communication between the stylus and the device. To clarify, it conducts the electrical charge from your finger to the screen just like your finger would. You can use capacitive stylus on any touchscreen that works with your finger.

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • More accurate than a finger
  • Works on most devices without connecting

Cons

  • Easily destroyed by students
  • The wrist can not touch the screen
  • Lacks precise drawing

  • Can be expensive
  • Can lack compatibility
  • Has a battery life so it needs to be charged

Logitech Crayon

This is my favorite for class use. I was lucky enough to purchase a class set of these. Most importantly, they do not roll off the table, nor do I need to pair with the student Apple devices. With palm rejection technology, it is perfect for elementary students learning to write and hold a pencil.

The smart tip adjusts line weight automatically.

Meko Active Pencil

I purchased the Meko Pencil to see how it compared to the Apple pencil while deciding which set of stylus pens to buy for my class. It feels and writes like the Apple Pencil. I preffered the logi tech because I already had a charging station they could connect to. For the price, these are amazing. However, they only work with Apple.

Apple Pencil

Apple Pencil has pixel-perfect precision making your writing feel natural. However, It’s more suited for older children who have developed handwriting skills.

One Last Review

If you are planning on using a device for teaching writing and handwriting. You should look into having a matte screen protector. I switched mine out a few weeks ago. It has made a noticeable difference in my digital note-taking.

This is what I purchased for my work and personal Ipad. You can visit my classroom must haves to see some of my other favorite teaching supplies.
